Who The Hell Are You? A Plot Against Me

It's Wednesday, and that means another installment of Who The Hell Are You?, where we profile indie bands, labels and organizations. This week, we're talking to Quebec group A Plot Against Me, who recently released their Who Do You Work For? Why Do You Do It? album. Where are you from?
A crapper of a town called Gatineau, Quebec.

How did your group start? When did you start playing music?
The band started with Sylvain Lavigne (vocals, guitars, bass, etc.) and Martin Desjardins (drums) in October 2003. We'd been playing in different bands since 1996 or so, and then decided it would be time to write together and play killer shows. We recently added Dan Page on bass, who was an old bandmate of Mart's, and we've asked Shawn Bradley to play live gigs on second guitar since he produced the record and knows the songs and feel, etc.

Describe your music in 100 words or less.
Dirty-aggressive-ambient-rock. The kind of shit your woman wants to have savage sex to, but you, as a macho beef eater, might want to lift weights or fight other greasy men to.

How was your recent release recorded?
We recorded it at Shawn's Studio. It was all done with great care to not use any sampling, so we only used organic sounds. It was recorded through analog gear and then mixed in ProTools. We'd cut demos of certain songs that needed more writing and pre-production, but for the rest we just pretty much went in, pounded it and then fixed any major errors. I recorded vocals, bass, guitars and other instruments while Mart recorded drums. Dan Page played bass on a song we co-wrote, "Have You Seen This Boy?"

How committed are you to making music a full-time career?
Very. Completely. This is what we want in life, we live for music. Like I told my own kids, "Once I get signed, you'll see a lot of new men coming here to have dinner with mommy. Just don't call them dad too fast. I might be able to smuggle you on the tour buses if you can do roadie work for under minimum wage."

Where can people find your music, either on the web or in what stores?
Our website is a great place with fast service. I oversee all in/out requests. We are also selling them at CD Warehouse locations in Ottawa for now. More to come.

What's something we haven't asked about that you'd like our readers to know about your band?
We're currently showcasing for labels, and we should be doing a show in July/August in Toronto regarding that. Also we are playing a huge show in Gatineau as part of the return to school. That will be a major event sponsored by TAG radio (96.5 FM), and other companies which I'd rather not mention, as they are alcoholic beverages and so on. We're also headed back into the studio to record new demos for the next record.
